So me and John have been talking about playing some Warhammer 40k sometime, I'm not sure what John has but I have a sizable space marine force and a pretty solid start to an eldar army. I am going to be buying a boxed set of elder soon and I'll most likely play that army the most. If anyone else would like to join us, you are more than welcome.

To John: You said you had been collecting and painting armies, what do you have as far as 500ish+ point armies would go? I'm thinking starting with armies of 800-1200 points would be a good place to refresh our taste in the game. Let me know what you think and any other ideas/house rules type things you've played by.

When I used to play we used the following most of the time, but I was also in middle school so you can prolly understand. Note: this was before thelast edition of the rules came out and before there was an army structure chart.

    - 2000 points
    - special characters allowed
    - vehicle rules were needlessly complicated, so we rarely used them (of course they are much nicer now)

    thats about it for now...

As an aside to this topic, I'm also looking for people who want to play Mordheim. Its another games workshop game but its a fantasy setting for skirmish battles. All the rules are available for download at the specialists games website or just google mordheim if you are interested.

Well, Ive been playing 40k for years. I have many armies in various sizes, which I have taken to a total of five Grand Tournaments in Chicago. All of my armies may be resized to fit any size game, so I have enough regardless what anyone wants to do.

Ive played lots of house rules... some are cool some are not. Special Characters are no big deal, but I prefer to stay within the standard army selections as in the traditional GT scoring system. (Ie you get more points for troops than tricked out special characters. Its not that specials or tricked-out HQs are bad, but in everyday skirmishes you typically wouldnt see them. Only in the largest most important missions would the Chapter Master actually be present on the battle field. On little cleanse missions, Troops typically get the job done.)

    Here is a summary:

    Salamanders Space Marines: 5000+ Points.
By far the largest and most ambitious of my 40K projects, I have enough Salamanders to take on a Legion. It fully mechanized. I won 3rd place for Appearance at GT Chicago in 2002 with the first detachemnet. It is fully WYSISWYG. It fills up about 2 1/2 Org. Charts. Incredible to see fully laid out on a table; its a lot of Doods.

    Tyranids: 2500 +/- Points.
I got a lot of bugs, but bugs are cheap. A single little bug is only 4 points, Big bugs can be 200. I dont really care for my simple Tyranid paint job, Ive always wished I could redo it. Too bad I never will.

Chaos Space Marines: 2500 +/- Points.
My first army and foray into painting, it was a hodge podge of models that looked cool. I have lot of Khorne, and some Slanesh. I dabbled in Nurgle last year, and would be tempted to flesh out a few more squads of plague marines with my new & improved decaying paint job! The prototype figures for my new technique came out pretty cool.

    Necrons: ??? Points.
I have no idea how many Necrons I have. It was a modelling project just to see how far I could convert a single army. Its 100% conversion, with all Egyptian themes and basing. Looks cool, but Ive never made an army list for it. Maybe 1000 Points?

    The rest:
Lots of One-off figures for Dwarfs, Eldar, Tau, Space Wolves.
Lots of Bloodbowl teams. Undead, Norse, & Some more.
I have a Chaos Mordheim gang. Never played it.
Lots of stuff in my bitz box.

    OOOOOOHH!!!
I almost forgot! I have a Full Confrontation Undead Army. Absolsultely FRICKIN SWEET paint job! I would love to show it off.... My Confrontation Chaos Dwarfs are cool too. Anyone wanna play Confrontation?

Awesome, while I wasn't big into painting my stuff when I was playing (basicly none painted and those that are I purposely would leave out)

I have a lot of space marines, mostly just troops, but its split between blood angels and ultra marines because me and my bro were collecting them at the same time.

My eldar army is pretty old school, and the new models are soooooo perty I want to buy it anew. I definitely plan on getting into painting them since I did a lot of one of paintings for dnd.

I also have a tone of necromunda gangs (half of my delaques are painted) and a witch hunter mordheim warband.

the rest of my collection is a bunch of one ofs like youve got.

So right now I'm waiting to get my money back from my trip to sperry (ie new eldar army) but in the mean time I have a bunch of blood angels and ultramarines I would like to put to the test!

[EDIT] Oh and all of my stuff is WYSIWYG, besides my death company (half oldschool half newer)

WOT?!?!?!? YOU PLAY WITH UNPAINTED MINIATURES!?!?!?!?!
I CANNOT PLAY WITH YOU, YOU TINBOY!

(Yeah, thats me 7 years ago when I was all snobby about painting.)

Anyways, cool. I haqve plenty of space and terrain in Toodle-lee-doo to play with if ya like. Plus, you can see my dining room hutch where I display my collection. (Yes, I said hutch. The interior lights are cool!)

We may struggle through the first few games as we regrasp the rules, but it ought to be fun.

    What's your schedule?

I'm definitely down for that. I know I don't know a lot of the new rules so thats always fun. I'd be down for anytime next week. I work til 4:30-5:00 every day and I live in Monroe so Toledo isn't a big deal, I mean I work there and all...

I think Weds is the only day I have something planned.

Depending on if I get the new Eldar Codex or not, I'll either bring them, my space marines, or both. And I'm currently just waiting on my expences repayment from when I went to VA and I'm buying (nearly) a whole new Eldar army.

Let me know what days are best for you and I'll see what works.

    Jason,
It looks like I cannot play 40k this Tuesday afterall. I need to interview real estate agents on that date. Perhaps we can reschedule for next week?

So I bought a chunk of my army yesterday. Roughly the amount of stuff that comes in the BIG boxed set.

    1x Autarch
    2x Squads of Dire Avengers
    1x Squad of Harlequins
    1x Squad of Swooping Hawks
    1x Squad of Howling Banshees
    1x Wraithlord
    1x Wave Serpent

In addition from my old stuff I have
    1x Eldrad
1x Avatar of Kaela Mensha Khaine
    3x Farseers
    8x Warlocks
    1x Squad of Warp Spiders
    1x Falcon
    1x Old School Wraithlord
    1x Old Striking Scorpions Squad
    1x Old Banshees Squad
    1x Old Hawks Squad
    1x Old Rangers Squad
    1x Old Fire Dragons Squad
    1x Jetbike Squad
    1x Vyper
    1x Baharroth, Hawk Phoenix Lord
    1x Scorpion Phoenix Lord
1x Maugan Ra, Reaper Phoenix Lord
Xx Random old crappy guardians and other random eldar models

So I think thats my random swarm of pointy men who are going to try to shoot and chop you into oblivion!

Oh and the other day I made a 1k point blood angel's style army, you know lots of jumpers, flamers and melta guns. All lead by a chaplain with a jump pack! RAWR! And best of all it was exactly 1k points!

Holy crap... if you include the cleaning up of edges the new Dire Avenger models take 8-10 pieces and 20 mins a piece to put together! Only 16 more to go...
